Nåleøjet – The Eye of the Needle.

The sculpture is approx. 5 m high and 3 m in diameter. The 3 main features are the shells, the figurines and the fountain.

The two shells are placed with a 30 cm gap and widens at the ground like “the eye of a needle”. The shell facing west is made of mat black granite with 12 lens shaped oval recesses.

The eastern shell is made of polished stainless steel. It has 12 lens shaped oval rises.

The figures represent 12 angels and 12 beasts. The angels are made of polished stainless steel and placed on the ovals of the eastern shell. The beasts, made of bronze, are placed in the ovals of the black granite shell facing west.

Each figure is lit by a light. Apart from that, the sculpture is only lit from the inside.

A small bridge runs across the basin and through “the eye of the needle”, between the two shells. On the interior of the shells; the fountain makes a wall of crossing water beams just high enough for a child to pass through, without getting wet. A grown up, however, has to crouch and run, to avoid getting soaked.
